German car maker Volkswagen has gone ahead and committed to making a production version of the 2014 Beetle Dune Concept in 2016. Though the car maker did not make a separate announcement for the same, the news has brought about a lot of excitement among Beetle aficionados. Volkswagen had made it clear in 2014 that a production version will enter the market through a short video, which saw the mention of coupe and convertible. Now, the Volkswagen Beetle Dune will surely enter the United States market in a year’s time.
The announcement regarding the Beetle Dune production version came in a press release that saw Volkswagen explaining the four concept models that made their debuts at the New York Auto Show a few days back. As per Volkswagen’s press release, the production version of Beetle Dune will enter dealerships by early 2016. Experts have not been surprised by this announcement and feel that it was on the cards.
An alteration to the regular Beetle, the Dune Concept is taller and wider than the standard version and is fitted with an engine same as the turbocharged R-Line. However, analysts say that it will be tough for Volkswagen to go ahead with the same configuration as the Beetle is a front-wheel drive vehicle.
The marketing aspect of Volkswagen is going to be crucial for the success and performance Beetle Dune production version. Some reports suggest that Beetle Dune could be launched in competition with crossover vehicles like Mazda CX-3 and Jeep Renegade.
