Now that an all-new generation of the Toyota Innova is incoming for the Indian market, perhaps it makes sense to reflect upon the genius of the old model which has settled into the history books. Yes, Toyota has stopped making the Innova as we know it and is currently readying a bolder looking model (dubbed Innova Crysta) which is bound to be even better overall. Nevertheless, as fans of the now defunct Innova, here are our top 5 reasons which made this popular MPV so great.

Tank-like build quality: Like the heading says – anything you threw at the old Innova it would take in its stride. It was built to last and last long. The overall built quality is first-rate and it will probably take 6-digit figures on the odometer and really rough driving for the cabin plastics to start rattling or squeaking. And Toyota makes good quality interior and resilient mechanical bits, the Innova has turned out to be immensely reliable on the long run. Do not be surprised to see mechanically fit cars being used as taxis with well over 3 lakh kilometres on the clock.

It’s the country’s maiden modern people mover: Prior to the Innova, there was the Qualis. It was not what one would call a dynamically accomplished product. The outgoing Innova was built around a fairly modern body-on-frame construction and, as a result, felt the most car-like to drive compared to the existing people movers.
