The most awaited motorcycle launch of the year – the Royal Enfield Himalayan has been launched at a price tag of Rs 1.55 lakh (ex-showroom Maharashtra) and on-road Mumbai it will cost you Rs 1.78 lakh.

Built on a completely new platform, the Himalayan is Royal Enfield’s all-new motorcycle in 25 years. In terms of style, the Himalayan looks way different from the rest of the bikes in its family. The minimalistic design approach on the bike has made it look a lot more practical and usable. The Chennai-based manufacturer has put in quite a lot of effort to give it a good ground clearance of 220mm and at the same time a seat height of 800mm for the Himalayan. With a kerb weight of 182kgs, the Himalayan is a versatile bike.

To take on the bad roads, the Himalayan gets a new 411cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine that produces 24.5bhp and 32Nm of peak torque. This engine is mated to a five-speed gearbox that transfers power to the rear wheel via a chain drive. While this engine is almost vibe free and responsive, Royal Enfield limited the power to only 24.5bhp to make it more accessible to new riders. Being marketed as a multi-purpose motorcycle, the Himalayan is a practical motorcycle for the Indian market.

Royal Enfield is offering the Himalayan in two colours – black and white. The bookings for the Himalayan has already begun across India. However, the deliveries will only begin early next month.
