Pepper spray and a panic button that’s what you get when you ride MeruEve, the pink fleet of cabs available especially to provide safety for women. Tapping the recent happenings, MeruEve works out for the best. Today, safety is a priority for all types of travelers and tourists who travel in India. Pahwa, CEO of Meru Cabs, said that at Meru the passenger’s safety has always been important, resulting in various technological innovations that help overcome security issues that impact the cab industry. MeruEve is an extension of the company’s efforts, and it is proud to launch its new service in support with the Delhi Police.

The white and pink colored cars have women drivers, who, they claim, have been trained by the Delhi Police to save themselves as well as the passengers. The panic button works out pretty smoothly wherein if anything happens, the company will be notified immediately. These cabs are only for women and are a step forward towards ensuring their safety.

Meru’s move comes after the recent happenings in Delhi where an Uber driver was accused of raping a woman while on route. Because of this, many companies like Uber and Ola were put on red alert in many areas. The effect went on to Uber even being banned in New Delhi and several other cities of India. This is a welcome step on behalf of the government as well as the people of the country.

MeruEve is currently available only in Delhi, while the company hopes to venture into more cities. Female chauffeurs is nothing new for India, and the rise in rapes and other such crimes towards women has only made it more prominent for companies to offer cabs with women drivers. The cabs also have 3G enabled handsets with features of video calling, and distress phone options so that the passenger and the driver are safe. Meru is working hand in hand with the Delhi Police to ensure that women are kept safe.

This is only the start of what is to be an evolution for women safety. An announcement released by the company stated that these cabs would be available at basic prices, like their other cabs, at 23 rupees per kilometer. These cabs would be open for booking via the company’s call center, their website as well as their mobile application. A curbside pickup is also available for the cabs.
