With almost every automobile firm planning to enter into the Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) segment of the domestic market, Nissan does not want to be left behind. The SUV rage began with the entry of Renault Duster which did immensely well in the market and being the first of its kind, enjoyed the princely position. However, as time passed by, auto makers began to flood this market and Renault had to face some stiff competition. The recent entry from Ford and Nissan has just brought in more options for SUV enthusiasts. Following the bandwagon, Nissan is planning to introduce its first compact SUV Terrano in the Indian auto market.

At the unveiling of Terrano, Nissan India mentioned that the model will be launched somewhere in October and if sources are to be believed, it will be introduced on 9th of October. However, there has been no confirmed news from the company officials. Also, the exact price was not declared at the unveiling ceremony, however industry experts are of a view that the starting price will be around Rs. 10 lakh.

The initial bookings of this highly anticipated SUV started off on 1st of September with a nominal amount being Rs. 50,000. It is expected that the deliveries would commence by end of November this year. Also, in order to cater the demands of a large section of society, Terrano will be available in both petrol and diesel engine options. The 1.6-litre petrol engine, which is similar to what Renault Duster is equipped with, would churn out a maximum power of 102.6 bhp. The diesel versions of Nissan Terrano would get a 1.5-litre engine in two forms that will belt out a maximum power of 108.5 bhp and 83.8 bhp.

As per speculations, Nissan India might come out with the 4WD version of this SUV, just the way Renault Duster has planned to. It seems that the Japanese firm has come well prepared into the market and is ready to take the compact SUV segment by storm. The upcoming Terrano will facing a stiff competition from Renault Duster, Ford EcoSport and Mahindra Quanto.

Nissan Terrano would be available in six colour options, namely Sterling Grey, Pearl White, Bronze Grey, Sapphire Black, Blade Silver and Fire Red. Along with, it will be offered in three trim levels, namely XE, XL and XV. The XE variant would be an entry level one with features like front and rear power windows, multi-information display and driver's side airbag. The XL variant gets additional features like Anti-Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assistance (BA). The top end variant, XV, would be the flagship version which would be equipped with an array of features like reverse parking sensors, 16-inch alloy wheels, ABS with EBD, dual airbags and leather seats.
