German luxury car maker BMW announced that its first electric car will be ready to hit the international market in the year 2013. The company intends to begin mass production of electric vehicles from this year itself and hundreds of electric Mini’s or Mini E’s are expected to roll out from early next spring.

The company has taken into account the growing popularity of hybrid and electric vehicles globally. Thus, it plans to launch all-urban vehicle designed for metros and urban driving conditions.

Apart from the electric Mini’s BMW also intends to bring a brand new EV dubbed as “Megacity.” It will be a 5-seater car that will rival VW Volt and will be the size of VW Golf. Volkswagen is already ahead in electric vehicle market and will launch its EV this year. The new Megacity will have the rear mounted motor and rear-wheel drive as well. BMW plans on using extensive amounts of high tech carbon fiber to make their Megacity EVs stronger, safer, lighter and faster than any other electric cars on the road.
