The Indian auto giant Maruti Suzuki has raised the salary of their Gurgaon plant workers by up to 70 percent, resulting in a pay hike of up to Rs 18,000. The recent pay hike has come as a part of company’s three year wage settlement. With this considerable hike in salary, the Gurgaon plant workers will now be the highest paid among their industry counterparts in the manufacturing sector.

The latest salary hike has been incorporated while taking into consideration the experience and seniority of the workers. The workers will be getting about 80 percent of their average price hike of 18,000 in the first year of the settlement. The new wages will be counted from the month of April 2012 and arrears will be given to the workers in next two months.

While speaking to ET, Maruti Udyog Kamgar Union general secretary Kuldeep Janghu said, "This is the highest-ever hike in Maruti's 30-year history. We have signed an agreement with the management where even the probation of new technicians will come down to two years from the earlier three (years) and the periodic medical benefits to all workers have also been doubled."
