      Nissan aims to roll out 10 new models along with Datsun brand in India by 2016

      Nissan Motor Company, the Japanese auto major is spearheading to actualise its goal of owing a major 8 percent market stake in the global auto market. As a part of this plan, the company will be strategising to launch 10 new models in the high potential Indian auto market also comprising of its Datsun brand models by the year 2016.

      By 2016, the automaker is endeavouring to launch a whopping number of 51 models worldwide. Additionally, plans are being chalked to cautiously expanding the manufacturing capacity in India, either by establishment of a new plant or upgrading the capacity at its existing plant in Chennai.

      Mr. Toru Hasegawa, Corporate Vice-President (Africa, Middle East and India), Nissan Motor Company, was quoted as saying, "Expansion in emerging markets, BRICS is key to achieve this goal of 8 per cent global market share. India is a significant market for us. We will launch 10 new models by FY'16, which is introducing two new models every year."

      While affirming about the segments, the company is expecting to foray and capture, Mr. Toru commented, "We are looking at all the segments. For the small car segment, our Datsun brand will cover but we will have a range of products. For building our brand image, we need to have products such as SUVs and we have those in our portfolio."

      The company confirmed the launch of two Datsun models by 2014 with another following in next three years and initially after the launch, Datsun models will be sold at Nissan showrooms.

      This year Nissan aims to achieve double fold rise of 2 percent share in Indian auto market while efforts are directed for capturing 8 percent market share by 2016.
