The Jaguar XE has been launched in Malaysia at Rs 55.30 lakh (340,730RM). It is being offered in three variants and with two petrol engine options. It slots in below the XJ and XF sedans and is the British automaker’s rival to the Audi A4 and the BMW 3 Series.
The XE was unveiled and launched in 2014 and is underpinned by an all-new aluminium architecture and a new engine family called Ingenium which comprises both petrol and diesel engines. In terms of external design, the XE is in line with its elder siblings and gets elements like the large chrome grille, swoopy headlamps and of course the famous leaping cat logo. It measures 4.6 metres and has a wheelbase of 2.85 metres.
The cabin too is that familiar Jaguar design but now with more plastic and leather than wood as we would normally expect to see in the cabin of a Jaguar car. It is all there in terms of features - climate control, electric seats, touchscreen infotainment system and sumptuous leather seats to take four in comfort.
On the engine front, the Malaysian market, gets the base XE prestige with a 2.0-litre mill. In standard form it produces 200bhp/280Nm while in the R sport state of tune it produces 240bhp/340Nm. The most powerful variant is the XE S which is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 model that produces 340bhp/450Nm of torque. All variants are only offered with a ZF eight-speed AT. As a special deal, early buyers of the sedan will also get launch accessories worth Rs 1.62 lakh (10,000RM).
The Indian market will see the XE debuting at the 2016 Auto Expo and will be launched with both petrol and diesel engines. It is expected to have a limited run of CBU models before the company starts local assembly of the sedan.
