Popular car-maker Hyundai has been known across global markets for delivering cars that are loaded with modern technology and up-kept with times. This time around, the company has run into problem for overstating the fuel economy figures of its recently launched Santa Fe SUV. The Korean transport ministry has levied a fine of about 1 Million USD on Hyundai for misrepresenting facts.

The fine amount is not considered to be too heavy for car-maker, but the brand image is expected to be affected to a large extent due to this decision. Moreover, the scenario may also urge the South Korean car owners to claim legal compensation for additional fuel cost borne by them. Reports have also been coming in that three Santa Fe owners have already demanded 600,000 Won as a compensation amount at a court in Seoul.

Similar incident had also been reported by United States authorities about two years ago. Speaking more on this incident, Korean transport ministry said, “We regret that we were not able to announce unified test results for the same vehicles.” Hyundai on the other hand has been working on gaining proper reports for its vehicle. Hyundai sources said, “very confused by the fine and the different results announced by the related government ministries regarding the fuel economy rating of our Santa Fe 2.0 Diesel 2WD AT and we regret the discrepancy.”
