Punto’s new version is ready to come in the arena, buzz has it that Fiat will be launching refreshed Punto in India during August. Though the tweaked version will not sport comprehensive changes, but it is expected that Fiat will bestow minor cosmetic upgrades. Mechanically the hatchback will remain largely same as the outgoing version. On the outside, a new bumper, grille and swept back head lamps could be seen. Rear too is likely to get tweaked tail lamps. Changes made to the interiors include a dashboard layout borrowed from the new Linea.
Engine set will be retained from the previous version, petrol range of Punto is expected to be offered in two engine options- a 1.2 litre and a 1.4 litre gasoline motors. Diesel trims could be powered with the Fiat’s renowned Multijet diesel powertrain delivering two states of tune-74 Bhp and 89 Bhp. The engine powers some of the most popular hatchbacks in India.
With just two models in the Fiat India’s current line-up, sales momentum is bleak. Earlier this year, the Italian auto maker rolled out new avatar of Linea sedan sporting few upgrades. The upcoming Punto facelift will replace the current model that is unable to create any magic in the hatchback segment. Fiat’s sagging performance in the domestic market is no secret; the auto maker has chalked out a plan to bring more new models to the country in wake of catalyzing its sales. In upcoming month we will witness launch of Avventura crossover which is based on Punto hatchback followed by performance oriented 500 Abarth premium hatchback.
