Hyundai, the South Korean automaker is betting big on Indian car market to increase its shares globally. With several global launches including Grand i10, Xcent compact sedan and Elite i20, Hyundai has registered a significant growth in the Indian market. Now, the company is gearing up for one more global debut in the Indian car market. The Elite i20 based crossover, which has been spotted several times, is ready to make its global debut in early 2015.
The Hyundai Elite i20 crossover will go on sale in the Indian car market in the first half of 2015. Adding to it, the company will also launch the ix25 compact SUV in the country in the second half of 2015. The crossover is likely to be priced around Rs. 40,000 to 50,000 more than the hatchback sibling, and will compete against the likes of Volkswagen Cross Polo, Fiat Avventura and Toyota Etios Cross.
Based on the Elite i20 hatchback, the crossover gets new features which distinguish the car with its hatchback sibling. The vehicle has additional body cladding, new grille and new set of alloy wheels. Under the bonnet, the crossover will get the same 1.2-litre Kappa petrol and the 1.4-litre CRDi turbo diesel engines that also power the hatchback. Both engines are clubbed to a five-speed manual gearbox which sends the power to front wheels of the car.
