      Ford India sales surge 12 percent during October

      Ford India, the Indian subsidiary of the US based leading car maker Ford Motors, has registered a sales surge of 12.01 percent during the month of October 2011. The cumulative sales of the company stood at 10,906 units during the month as compared to 9,737 units sold in the same month last year.

      In the domestic market, the company sold a total of 8,091 units of its cars as compared to 9,026 units in the same month last year, accounting for a decline of 10.36 per cent in the domestic market. The compact hatchback Ford Figo remained the largest contributor in the company’s sales during the month.

      On the other hand, the company’s sales stood at 2,815 units in the overseas market, as compared to 711 units exported to the overseas market in the same month last year.

      Commenting on the company’s performance during the month, Ford India President and Managing Director Michael Boneham said, "Exports are a strong part of our growth strategy. And it's wonderful to see the Chennai-made Figo winning hearts of customers in overseas markets too."

      In the January to October 2011 period, the company sold a total of 1,01,439 units as compared to 77,324 units sold in the same period last year, accounting a sales surge of 31.19 per cent.
