Ford India is gearing up to venture into the fast growing compact sedan segment in domestic market next year with Figo sedan. Along with the Figo sedan, Ford will also bring forth new Figo hatchback that is already on sale in Brazilian market under the moniker Ka. While Figo sedan is a completely new product that will replace ageing Classic, new Figo will be a copiously modified variant of current generation Figo. Both the vehicles fall in mass segment category and are likely to pull volumes for Ford in domestic market.
Hence to connect with the customers in India, it is likely that Ford will retain the Figo name since the brand is extremely popular in India. Just like the Swift twins viz; Maruti Swift hatchback and Maruti Swift Dzire CS, these two will also be positioned and named in the similar manner. Expected to debut in domestic market by mid-2015, the sub-four meter Figo sedan will have a brand identity of its own other than the Figo name. Work is going on in full swing at the company’s upcoming manufacturing facility in Gujarat. Figo sedan and new Figo hatchback will be among the first few vehicles to be manufactured at the facility.
The B segment that includes some of the popular hatchbacks like Maruti Swift, Hyundai Elite i20 , Volkswagen Polo will witness launch of new entrants including Tata Bolt, new Honda Jazz and new Figo hatchback. New Figo is expected to be priced between Rs 4 lakh to Rs 6.5 lakh.
On the other hand Figo sedan will face stiff completion from Honda Amaze, Maruti Swift Dzire, Tata Zest and Hyundai Xcent in sub-four meter sedan segment. Figo sedan is likely to be priced between Rs 5 lakh to Rs 8 lakh.
