Speaking more on the occasion Peter Schwarzenbauer, a member from BMW board of management said, “Seamless charging infrastructure is essential if we want to see more electric vehicles on the road in our cities in the future.” The prototype named ‘Light and Charge’ shall use street lamps that combines powerful Light Emitting Diodes (LED) with the company’s recharging station named ChargeNow for electric cars. The benefit of these new innovative charging points is that users of cars apart from BMW can use these points for a recharge.

Paying for a recharge is also simple as the owners can make a payment with just a click on a user friendly smart phone app. For now, two street lamps outside BMW headquarters are already being put to use. In terms of advanced car technology, BMW has been riding high with the i8 and i3 cars, but owing to limitations like shortage of charging stations, time taken for recharge and limited travel distance has not helped it gain more popularity with the local market. But with new plan in works, the new technology may likely generate a lot of interest among its users.
