Audi, the 100 per cent subsidiary of Volkswagen, declared launch of its much awaited S4 in the Indian auto industry. The car is appreciated for its raw power and the appealing outlook adorned by it. Audi S4 is designed to remain parallel with the daily proceedings of individuals, making it a people’s car. Impressive performance, lavish interiors and power oriented engine are some of the key USPs of Audi S4. The base variant of S4 is priced at Rs. 45,31,000 (ex-showroom Maharashtra). Buyers can attain the possession of new Audi S4 from all the 19 official dealerships spread in the country.
On the launch ceremony of Audi S4, Michael Perschke, Head, Audi India, quoted, “With impressive sales growth in the first five months of this year and the launch of the Audi TT, new Audi A4 and now Audi S4, 2012 is proving to be an exciting time for us. From the introduction of innovative products and services to customer initiatives, we are making great strides in our endeavour towards customer delight. We are continuously reviewing our plans vis-à-vis market trends and changing customer preferences in order to satisfy the growing demand for luxury cars in the country. After the introduction of the new Audi A4 we saw a lot of Audi ‘fans’ requesting for the Audi S4, and we responded to this demand. The new Audi S4 joins the successful league of our sedans and we are confident that it will also script a success story similar to its predecessors.”
S4 symbolizes Audi’s contemporary designing language with a little touch of sportiness in body style and engine as well. The vehicle is considered as a powerful sports car, which is not just fast but also reflects everyday practicality. The front fascia of Audi S4 makes it the star of the eye with hexagonal shaped single frame grille and xenon headlamps shaped in wedge, which are embraced in the daytime running LED lights. New bumpers and LED lights at rear indicates the sense of S4 being a revamped model. The radiator grille of S4 is polished with platinum grey, featuring precisely carved chrome indulged bars and a logo of S4. Covers of Outer Rear View Mirrors (ORVM) are provided with an aluminium finish, whereas the side sills of the car are designed in body colour. The brooches of V6 T embellish the side skirts of S4.
As far as technical specifications of Audi S4 are concerned, the car is assimilated with a V6 3.0 TFSI, six-cylinder powertrain. The performance oriented engine of Audi S4 churns out an impressive power of 333 bhp with peak torque at 440 Nm. With a powerful engine, S4 smoothly accelerates from 0-100 kmph in a short span of five seconds, which is further followed to a top speed of 255 kmph. Although the output of S4 is commendable, it does not lag in the terms of fuel economy. The engine of Audi S4 enables it to cover a distance of 10.34 kmpl (as per certified by ARAI).
The car is incorporated with a standard seven-speed S tronic transmission system, which further assists the performance of engine. This terminology shifts the power produced to Quattro drivetrain of S4 with torque vectoring and self-locking centre differential. With the incorporation of sport suspension system, the ground clearance of S4 is reduced by 20 millimetres (0.79 in), enabling it to deliver a sporty sense. The wheels of luxurious saloon have a diameter of 18 inches and are equipped with an effective braking system, which provides a decent deceleration to the car.
Mentioning feedback from the enthusiasts received by Audi, Perschke further added, “We have been receiving requests for the new Audi S4 from car enthusiasts all over the country ever since it was first seen at the Audi Driving Experience where Indian motorsport ace and Audi S4 owner, Karun Chandhok drove it on the tracks of the Buddh International Circuit. We decided to utilize the power of our huge fan base to gauge customer sentiments for this. We started the ‘Vote for S4’ campaign on various social media platforms and the outcome was overwhelming as thousands of fans participated on a daily basis and unanimously voted to bring the S4 to India.”
The interiors of S4 flaunt a leather wrapped multifunction sports steering wheel, which has a brooch of S4 in lower portion. Interiors of S4 are well illuminated with an exclusive lightning package which surrounds coloured display and the driver information system.
Witnessing a positive response from the Indian auto market, the company has decided to expand its dealerships from current 19 to 25, before the end of this year. Audi India recently rejoiced the opening of its new outlets in Coimbatore, Delhi West, Nagpur and its second facility in Madhya Pradesh. During last year, the company opened showrooms in Delhi South, Chennai, Ludhiana, Surat and Indore. In addition to these, the future expansion plan of the company may include Lucknow, Navi Mumbai and Mumbai South.
The Indian product portfolio of Audi incorporates models like Audi A4, A6, A7 Sportback, A8L, Q5, Q7, RS5 Coupe, TT Coupe, recently launched S4, the super sports car Audi R8 and the R8 Spyder. All the mentioned cars are available across the entire dealerships of the company.
