Tata Motors, the home-grown automaker, will launch the much-awaited Nano GenX tomorrow in India. The Nano GenX, first showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo, will replace the current Nano in the market. When launched, it will become India’s cheapest automatic car.

Powering the new Nano GenX will be the same 624cc, two-cylinder MPFI petrol engine that also does duty on the existing model. Though, it will get new cylinder head and aluminum block. This engine churns out a maximum power of 38.19PS at 5, 500rpm with a peak torque of 51Nm at 4, 000rpm. The most significant update given to the car is the addition of a 5-speed AMT (automated manual transmission) which is the same unit that is found in the Zest.

While the AMT gearbox will be offered only on the top-end trim, other variants will get a 4-speed manual gearbox. The standard manual trims are expected to offer a fuel economy of 25.35kmpl, while the Easy Shift – AMT version is claimed to return a fuel efficiency of 21.9kmpl.

The new Nano GenX looks identical to the existing model. Though, it has received minor cosmetic updates such as a large badge on front end, paino black finish on front and rear profiles and smoked headlamps. It will be available in a new Sangria Red color along with regular shades. Inside the cabin, the car will get an Amphistream music system with 4 speakers and Bluetooth connectivity, front power windows, Zest/ Bolt-inspired steering wheel, Multi information display, new interior trims, central locking remote, power steering, externally adjustable ORVMs and burglar alarm. An openable boot will be available only on base trim.

The 2015 Tata Nano GenX will take on likes of Hyundai Eon and Maruti Suzuki Alto 800.
