The Etios sedan has quite literally turned around Toyota's fortunes in India. From what used to be a small segment in the Indian automotive market, Toyota has become one of the major players in the country. The Liva, is the hatchback that is based on the Etios and it shares majority of its parts with the sedan. Toyota launched the sedan in December 2010, followed by the launch of the Liva hatchback in June 2011 for the Indian market.

The Toyota Etios Liva hatchback competes with the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai Grand i10 and Nissan Micra in the Indian market.

The diesel model of the Etios Liva delivers an ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 23.59kmpl, while the standard petrol version gives a fuel economy of 17.71kmpl.

All models of the Etios Liva hatchback are equipped with dual SRS airbags and ABS standard across versions. Apart from this, the car has seatbelt warning and alerts for doors open and headlights.

The top-end variants feature reverse parking sensors, steering mounted audio controls, wood finish armrest, chrome door handles, new seat fabric with height adjustable seats for driver, new LCD display and digital clock and a cooled glove box. The hatchback also gets two new rear speakers in addition to the speakers in the front. The infotainment system is same as the 2-DIN audio player with Bluetooth, USB Aux –in with remote, as in the Etios sedan.

The Liva hatchback is based on the Etios and gets similar styling as that of the sedan. The front grille, now, has been revised for a premium and aggressive look and for a change the Toyota looks nice. While there are no major revisions, the other cosmetic changes include the new 12-spoke design for the alloys and the reworked rear bumpers.

Toyota has powered the petrol version of the Etios Liva by the 1.2-litre mill that produces 79bhp of power and 104Nm of torque. In addition, there is another powerful petrol variant that is powered by the 1.5-litre engine from the Etios sedan that outputs 89bhp of power and 132Nm of torque. The oil-burner is powered by the 1.4-litre engine that churns out 67bhp of power and 170Nm of torque. In all the models of the hatchback, the engine comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission.
