Yobykes are now a brand name to reckon in electric vehicle segments. Electric two-wheelers are commonly referred to as Yobykes just as Bisleri has become generic for mineral water in the country. Yobykes are produced by Ahmedabad based engineering company – Electrotherm India Limited. The company was started in 2006 and since then it has already sold nearly 75,000 units in the country.
"I believe in the technology and know that there is no alternative to EVs,” says Mukesh Bhandari, chairman and chief technical officer of EIL. “The competence and expertise of the company in power electronics give us an edge over others,” he stated further. Currently, company’s product portfolio includes 7 models of which two are high speed variants – Yospeed and YoEXL-Er. EIL’s 60 percent revenue comes from high-speed models itself as this segment is expected to grow and account for nearly two-third sales in next two years. Its other low speed models such as YOSmart, YoElectron, YOExplor-ER are quite popular amidst school students who do not need driving license for these vehicles.
YoBykes compete with Hero Electric, TVS Motor and Oreva’s E-bike in India who are other major players.
