As per industry sources, Volvo would introduce its V40 Cross Country model in both petrol and diesel guises in India. The futuristic crossover boasts of stellar exterior looks, luxurious interior setting and an impressive performance from under its hood. Volvo V40's exterior body has been aerodynamically designed that provides it with a dynamic overall appearance. The interiors are aesthetically done and the vehicle can accommodate four to five occupants (including the driver). The Swedish auto major would be looking to capitalise on the big demand for stylish and high performance cars among the Indian car buyers.

Under its hood, the soon-to-be launched Volvo V40 would be available in two engine options, one a 1.6 litre petrol and the other being a 2.0 litre diesel. The V40 petrol trim, called T4, is powered by a 1.6 litre GTDi power-mill that develops a peak power output around 180 bhp and a maximum torque figure of 270 Nm. Further, Volvo V40 D3 is the diesel variant that would come fitted with 2.0 litre oil burner capable of churning out a peak power close to 150 bhp. The V40 Cross Country crossover would be available in both manual and automatic gearbox options.

Speaking of safety features incorporated in Volvo V40 Cross Country, the crossover will come fitted with the cutting edge City Safety auto-braking technology, world's first pedestrian airbags. Further, V40 would become the sole model in its segment to feature the revolutionary Pedestrian Detection technology. Other sophisticated features available in this vehicle are engine start/stop technology and braking energy regeneration system.

Volvo India would pitch its upcoming V40 crossover directly against the likes of Mercedes-Benz B-Class Sports Tourer, BMW X1 and Audi Q3 in the domestic luxury car market. Volvo is widely regarded as the maker of safest vehicles in the world and its V40 model fits the bill perfectly as being one of them. It is going to be interesting to see how Indian audience receives the new V40 Cross Country crossover.
