The Swedish automaker Volvo is planning to launch its first car of 2011, the Volvo S60, on March 10th. It is expected that the company will launch two variants of S60 initially. The variants will offer both petrol (T6 turbo) and diesel (D5) engine, and the prices are said to fall at 30 and 34 lakhs respectively.

Volvo S60 is considered as the cheapest Volvo car of the country though it will still come with advanced and unique safety features. In its bracket, the diesel Volvo S60 will compete with models like Audi A4 3.0 TDI and BMW 320D and the petrol version will compete with the A4 3.2 and BMW 330i.

The T6 twin-turbo petrol engine will come with a six-cylinder engine that has the capacity to churn out a peak power of 304 bhp at 5600 rpm and a maximum torque of 44.6 kgm at the rate of 2100 rpm. The petrol Volvo S60 is the only turbo petrol car that comes with a six-cylinder pot in its segment. In just 6.5 seconds the car can reach 0-100 km and at top speed it would touch 250 km per hour.

On the other hand, D5 twin-turbo 2.4 Liter diesel engine of Volvo S60 can deliver maximum power of 205 bhp at 4000 rpm and a peak torque of 42 kgm at 1500-3240 rpm. In just 7.8 seconds, the diesel Volvo S60 can reach 0-100 kmph and at top-speed it touches 230 kmph.

Furthermore, Volvo S60 will be a very safe car as it comes with some special safety features like pedestrian detection with auto-brake, lane departure control, adaptive cruise control, blind lane information system, which are features that seen nowhere in any other car in India.

The Volvo company is still a bit tight lipped on various information, but we expect the above to hold true as soon as the S60 launches.
