Volvo Buses, a subsidiary of the Swedish auto maker Volvo, has commenced the on-road tryouts of its 9400PX bus in Bangalore. The 9400PX is the India's longest multi-axle intercity bus with a steerable rear tag-axle and was demonstrated at the 2012 Auto Expo held in New Delhi.
Reportedly, the 9400PX has been developed on the Volvo PX platform and holds an 11 litre engine. The impressive engine is mated to an automated I-Shift transmission system and churns out a peak power of 370 hp. The bus has been further equipped with vast cabin space, pantry service, Video On Demand (VOD) along with a toilet facility, which will suit the vehicle for long distance journeys. The 9400PX bus keeps track of all the passenger requirements and its thoughtfully added features and comfortable seats render its occupants with the most pleasant journey experience.
Speaking on the handover of the new Volvo intercity 9400PX coach to KSRTC, Akash Passey, Senior Vice President (VP), Business region international, Volvo Bus Corporation and Chairman of the Board, Volvo Buses in India, said, “The Volvo 9400PX is an important milestone for Volvo buses in India. Currently, the 9400PX bus fleet is entirely used by the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) in the country, in accordance with the Swedish auto maker Volvo's undergoing intercity trial runs. The Volvo 9400PX intercity coach, a member of Volvo's 9400 range running successfully all over the country, is manufactured at the production facility of Volvo Buses in Hoskote near Bangalore.
