Volkswagen has officially announced the start of Ameo production at its Chakan facility in Pune, India. Volkswagen’s Ameo marks the German automaker’s debut in the compact sedan segment in the country. The car will be launched sometime around mid-June, while deliveries will commence from July onwards.
The Volkswagen Ameo is offered in petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol 1.2-litre three-cylinder MPI engine puts out 74bhp of power and 110Nm of peak torque. The diesel variant gets a 1.5-litre four-cylinder TDI engine which puts out 89bhp of power and 230Nm of torque. Both the engines come mated to a five-speed manual transmission, while seven-speed DSG transmission will be offered in only diesel guise.
Speaking of features, the Volkswagen Ameo comes loaded with an infotainment system with CD/MP3/USB/AUX-in/SD card and Bluetooth and iPod connectivity, central locking, electrically-adjustable ORVMs, steering mounted audio controls, height-adjustable driver's seat, reverse parking camera, tilt-and telescopic steering and automatic wipers.
In terms of safety, the Ameo will be offered with ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), dual-front airbags, driver and passenger side, Electronic Stabilisation Programme (ESP) and Hill Hold control. The Volkswagen Ameo is offered in five interesting shades of Blue Silk, Reflex Silver, Toffee Brown, Candy White and Carbon Steel and will be available in three trims namely - Trendline, Comfortline and Highline.
Interested customers can pre-book one by making a down payment of Rs 10,000. As for the pricing aspect though the official pricing is not out yet, we anticipate it to be priced between Rs 6 lakh – Rs 8.25 lakh.
