Volkswagen will launch its upgraded diesel engine for the Indian market in October. The automaker announced this during the roll out of the Ameo compact sedan at its facility near Pune. This updated 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine will now produce 108bhp instead of 103bhp but will have the same torque figure of 230Nm. This boost in power is expected to improve overall efficiency.
This engine will debut in the Vento before moving on to other models like the Polo, Skoda Rapid and the Ameo compact sedan. However, we believe that here there may be a smaller power increase considering the current output of the engine.
Volkswagen introduced this new diesel engine in 2014 to replace the 1.2-litre three-cylinder unit as well as the 1.6-litre four-cylinder unit. It powers a variety of models in the VW range as well as the Skoda Rapid.
