Volkswagen India, the Indian unit of the largest German automaker Volkswagen AG, has witnessed a marginal increased in its sales during the month of March 2012. The company managed to sell total of 8,326 units of its cars in the Indian market as compared to 8,095 units sold in the same month previous year.

The mass segment cars of the Volkswagen India portfolio – hatchback Volkswagen Polo and mid-size sedan Volkswagen Vento – remained the biggest contributors in the company’s sales during this month, giving a tough fight to their rivals in the Indian market.

Speaking on the company’s performance, Mr. Neeraj Garg, Volkswagen Group Sales India Director (Passenger Cars), said, "The month of March has proved to be the best-selling month for the Volkswagen's brand. This instills our confidence that our car lines especially the Polo and the Vento have been able to successfully prove its mettle despite the strong competition in the market."

Besides Polo and Vento, the other India portfolio cars of the company include premium sedans Volkswagen Jetta and Volkswagen Passat, iconic Volkswagen Beetle and luxury Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) Volkswagen Touareg.
