The Indian unit of largest European car maker Volkswagen announced on Monday that it has sold 7,000 units of its cars in the Indian market in April 2011.

The major contributors to this high sales figure remained the company’s latest car models – Volkswagen Vento and Polo – that accounted for total sales of 6,621 units during the month. The Polo model is competing with the likes of Ford Figo, Chevrolet Beat, Nissan Micra and Maruti Swift. On the other hand, the Vento model is taking on the likes of Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Maruti SX4, Ford Fiesta etc.

Moreover, the recently launched new generation Passat model received an overwhelming response from the Indian buyers as more than 190 units of the car have already been sold in the country.

Commenting on the considerably good performance of the company, Volkswagen India Group Sales Board Director (Passenger Cars) Neeraj Garg said, "We are extremely happy with the initial response to our recently launched Passat with BlueMotion Technologies and are looking forward for continued success." He added that the Polo and Vento sales have been consistently good, a lot of which the company owe to the increasing brand awareness, especially with its association with the ongoing Indian Premiere League.
