Volkswagen is slated to arrive in Shanghai with another electric concept. Later this month, Volkswagen will unveil its third concept in the I.D. series and this one is a compact crossover electric vehicle, the perfect urban car the millennials will want to look at.
Taking inspiration from the I.D. concept in Paris last year and the adorable I.D. Buzz in Detroit earlier this year (adorable because the ID Buzz is a modern take on the VW Camper van), the I.D. CUV (crossover urban vehicle) will follow the footsteps of the new-generation zero-emission mobility.
Volkswagen has been working towards building long range electric vehicles that will deal with the apprehensions that work against them becoming an easy choice. Apart from the eco-friendly powertrains, the I.D. series of cars will also be smart and connected and will have the option of autonomous driving as well.
While this is still in the nascent stages of development, Volkswagen aims at bringing these designs into mainstream by 2020 with at least a production prototype. The production of this series will also supplement Germany’s target of stopping sales of IC combustion engines by the year 2025.
