Two young spoilt brats were detained here in the Chinese capital after they tried to race their supercars in what could be a stunt straight from the Hollywood action blockbuster 'Fast and Furious'.

The unemployed duo - a 20-year-old surnamed Yu from Changchun in the northeastern Jilin province and a 21-year-old from Beijing - had a narrow escape in Beijing's Chaoyang District when their Ferrari and Lamborghini smashed into the wall of a tunnel.

Yu, driving a red Ferrari raced against a green Lamborghini driven by Tang on Saturday. Both were detained for dangerous driving.

They apparently belong to rich families and spolit brats have been criticized by netizens for their irresponsible behavior.

Both the vehicles were severely damaged when they careered through a tunnel guardrail, before smashing into walls at speeds of more than 160 km/h, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

Pictures circulating on microblogging site Sina Weibo show the totalled luxury cars in a tunnel, with pieces scattered on the ground.

One of the drivers was injured in the accident, the local traffic bureau said.

The case caused quite a stir on the Internet, particularly as 'Furious 7', the latest installment of the street-racing 'Fast and Furious' franchise, premiered in Chinese cinemas yesterday.

"A warm-up activity for the new movie, perhaps?" read one comment on Weibo.

A Ferrari or a Lamborghini costs millions of yuan on the Chinese mainland.

Before the ongoing corruption campaign initiated by President Xi Jinping, children of some of the top officials owned luxury sports cars.
