After entering the compact SUV and MPV segments, Renault India is now gearing up to mark its presence in the highly competitive entry-level hatchback segment. The Renault XBA is based on the all-new CMF-A platform, which has been jointly developed by Renault-Nissan alliance. This CMF (Common Modular Family) platform was unveiled in 2013, which is flexible enough to accommodate cars belonging to different segments. Nissan is also planning to launch the Redi-Go concept based small car which too will be based on the same platform.

The small car will rival against the likes of Maruti Alto 800, Hyundai Eon and the Datsun Go hatchback in the country. This small car will be a tall boy hatchback, thus offering good headroom space for both front and rear occupants. Under the bonnet is likely to be an all-new 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol motor which is also developed in-house by Renault-Nissan Alliance. This engine is likely to produce around 50PS of power, and will be paired to either five-speed manual or automated manual transmission. This small car will be produced at Renault-Nissan alliance's plant in Oragadam facility. It is expected to be priced around Rs. 3 lakh and is expected to be launched by mid-2015.
