Speaking at the launch ceremony of Toyota Fortuner, Toyota Kirloskar Motors (TKM) stated that the company still remains undecided whether or not it will launch its luxury brand Lexus and new Corolla Altis in the Indian market.

However, it is definitely contemplating its options to bring its parent company’s small car, Daihatsu to India. The company will take up a feasibility study on the new small car launch and will finalize it for the Indian market. It may decide to launch this new small car by end 2010 in India. "We are internally talking to bring Daihatsu in India," Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) Senior MD Akira Okabe. “A lot would depend on our performance here." The Osaka-based Daihatsu, owned by Toyota, is Japan's largest minicar maker and sells cars in over 100 countries.

If Daihatsu comes to India, Toyota will have a formidable portfolio and will have a multi-product strategy just like Maruti and Hyundai. The company currently has only 3 percent market share in India although it is the largest global market player.
