Octavia, a car that lead to the establishment of the Czech auto maker Skoda, was first released in the year 2001 in the Indian auto market. Upon the public acceptance of the first model, the auto maker quickly released the Laura, which was basically a successor of Octavia. However, it did not receive that warm welcome that was celebrated by the first version Octavia. Interestingly, after tasting many ups and down, Skoda has come up with plans to introduce a new generation model of Octavia in the country.

Sources close to the development process stated that earlier the auto maker was considering introducing the updated versions of the 2.0-litre diesel and the 1.8-litre TSI petrol engine. However, in order to keep the cost of its upcoming model down, a 1.4-litre TSI engine is expected to come forward, which will be priced closed to Rs. 12.5 lakh.

In terms of looks, Jozef Kaban, designer of the new Octavia, has worked hard to give the car a clean and crisp image. The key feature of its design is the new 'butterfly' grille, with its 21-high-gloss slats and two-tone flying arrow emblem erected on the front bonnet. Coming to the interiors of the model, the car seems pragmatic. The dashboard has been moulded neatly, with a number of stylish layers making up the top surface. A large colour touch screen rests on the centre console encapsulated in a black lacquer-like plastic. With regards to doors and gear lever, Skoda has used aluminium in large amount.

The space scenario is also good, with company paying immense concentration to make it look extensive. The wheelbase is ample with 108 mm larger than the Laura, which will result in a roomy cabin. Also, the seats gel well with rest of the cabin and assure complete comfort. Skoda has left provision for plenty of cubbyholes and storage locations, like bins and holders for keeping the phone. Boot space amounts to 590 litres, adding a further 410 litres with rear seats folded.
