Nano is exemplary in more than one way. People know it as only “the world’s cheapest car.” However, there is more than meets the eye! This is one of the first low-price cars that has been built with its engine at the back. This not only results in space constraint but also hampers the air flow. The team from Tata Toyo Radiator provided a solution to the problem. They designed the rear doors in such a manner that they could facilitate air intake. Moreover, the fan motor was also styled in such a manner that fan blades delivered better efficiency.

Tata Auto Comp Systems is the main supplier for Tata Nano. Nearly all auto parts such as plastic bumpers, dashboard, cockpit (front console), door handles, door & pillar trims, air vents and many power train plastic components have been supplied by TACO. "Our teams have been working closely with Tata Motors right since the inception of the project to design and engineer various components, keeping the cost, superior quality and performance parameters in mind, which required design and process optimisation," said TACO executive director and CEO RS Thakur.

The batteries for the car have been developed by Tata Green Batteries and are fitted under the driver’s seat. A relatively smaller windshield that delivers all the functionalities of a standard one has been especially developed for Tata Nano. Moreover, Nano is the first car in India that has a cable type gear shifter that not only makes the car lighter but also makes gear shifting smoother.
