The country’s largest vehicle maker Tata Motors told the Kolkata High Court on Wednesday that it had not abandoned the Singur project and stated that the statement of the West Bengal government regarding company’s abandoning the Singur project is not true. The company said that it was forced to leave the site due to blockades and agitations.

Earlier this week, the government had taken possession of the Nano car project land (997.97 acre), which the company had acquired in year 2006. The mattered has been adjourned by the court for now and will be heard again on Thursday.

It is to be mentioned here, the Tata Motors had to relocate its Nano manufacturing facility from Singur to Sanand in Gujarat, due to a series of political and farmer agitations related to land acquisition, led by Trinmool Congress leader Mamta Banarjee. The company inaugurated Sanand unit about a year back in June 2010.
