Tata Motors has announced that it is recalling its Nano to make some changes in the starter motor. This replacement is the biggest-ever in the Indian auto industry as the manufacturer is expected to receive almost 1.40 lac Nanos.

However, Tata Motors said that this practice was not a recall, since company officials commented that it is only replacing the old starter motor with a 'better' one. This exercise will cost the company around Rs. 110 crores, but will be performed free-of-cost for the customers.

A spokesperson of Tata Motors said, "We have devised a better starter motor and so we are upgrading it in our old Nanos for improved performance. We have not received any complaint for this and this is not a recall."

This programme was started in October 2011 and till now, the company has replaced motors of around 50,000 Nanos. On account of total number of cars recalled by the company, the spokesperson further said, "We will change the part in all the old Nanos that were sold before launching the Nano 2012 in November."

It is not the first time that Tata Motors has asked Nano customers to visit its workshops. In November 2010, the company asked 70,000 Nano owners to bring their cars back to the service stations for installing fire safety device in the car.

Speaking on this, Deepesh Rathore, Head, IHS Automotive India, said, "Tata Motors, like any other car maker, wants to ensure that its customers are satisfied with their product. So they are willingly replacing the starters in all available Nanos in the market."

These frequent recalls by Tata Motors indicate that the company is trying its best to offer best product to its consumers.
