Citing rise in input costs, Tata Motors has hiked passenger vehicle prices in the country ranging between Rs 5,000 to Rs 12,000.  Mayank Parekh, President, Passenger Vehicles Business Unit added that the prices of raw materials such as zinc and steel have also gone up thereby prompting the company to increase its vehicle prices.

The entry-level car Nano from Tata Motors now starts at Rs 2.15 lakh, while the Aria is priced at Rs 16.3 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi). The hike in prices also covers the recently launched Tiago hatchback and this will indeed be its second hike (last hike of Rs 6,000 in August) since its launch in the country. With the fresh hike in prices, the Tiago petrol now starts at Rs 3.72 lakh, while the diesel trim starts at Rs 4.81 lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi).

Though Tata Motors has just increased the prices, other leading automakers like Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai have hiked it up to Rs 20,000. The country's leading utility vehicle manufacturer Mahindra and Mahindra has hiked the commercial vehicle prices by about 1 per cent from this month onwards. The upcoming Hexa SUV from Tata Motors will replace the Aria crossover in January 2017. Post launch, it will compete against the likes of the XUV500 and Renault Duster in the country.
