These are the first set of spy shots of Hyundai’s upcoming midsize sedan called Celesta. Slated to make its public debut at the Beijing Auto Show in April next year, the Celesta will be positioned between the Verna and the Elantra in China.
Hyundai currently has a wide variety of sedans for the Chinese market. Dimension wise, the Celesta sits midway between the Verna and the Elantra, measuring 4.5m in length and with a wheelbase of 2.65m. Underneath too, Hyundai will plonk its existing 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with around 120bhp and 155Nm of torque. This is the same engine that’s also available in the Verna and the Elantra.
The Celesta will be made in China by the Beijing-Hyundai joint venture. Now although its front and rear looks different and all new, its side profile and some design elements like the bonnet line and the headlights are familiar affair. Nevertheless, it will only add to the choices of sedans under Hyundai’s Chinese stable.
