India's popular carmaker Tata Motors had recently began production for the Zest sedan at its Ranjangoan facility in Pune. Tata Motors has faced a lot of criticism in the past over its outdated looks and not-so-modern technology. This time around Tata Motors has decided to reclaim its hot-spot in the sedan and hatchback segment with the upcoming cars namely - Bolt and Zest. Bookings for the Zest sedan had began a while ago and interested buyers can book their desired Zest sedan online on Tata Motors’ official website for a token amount of Rs 21,000.

The Zest sedan from Tata shall be powered by a 1.2 Litre MPFI Turbocharged petrol Revotron engine that generates about 83bhp of power with 140Nm of torque. The sedan shall also be available in a diesel variant and shall be powered by a VGT 1.3-litre multijet diesel engine that generates about 89 Bhp. Both the engines have been mated to a 5-speed Automated Manual Transmission gearbox. The Automated Gear Shifter feature on the diesel version shall earn Zest the title of being cheapest automatic diesel sedan in the country. Tata Zest has been made a reality owing to valuable design inputs received from three Tata Motors design studios located in Coventry (UK), Turin (Italy) and Pune (India).

The car is stylish and looks better in every regard in comparison to its older counterparts. Post launch, the Zest sedan is definitely worth buy with improved technology and quality performance unit from Tata Motors. Tata Motors has not spoken about the pricing aspect yet, but it is anticipated that the sedan may be priced under Rs. 7.0 lakhs segment. The Drivenext philosophy features F-Tronic Automated manual transmission technology. The car is loaded with safety features like feature ABS, EPAS, speed sensitive power steering and Active Return function. The car shall also get next generation Harman infotainment system that lets you access your entire collection of videos, music and more on the 5 inch touchscreen. The car gets best in class width and wheelbase of about 2470mm, thereby giving more headroom to its occupants.

Ranjit Yadav, head of passenger vehicles, said, “The Zest is the first step and an important proof point of what we want to do with our passenger vehicle business. We have taken some hard calls in the last 12 to 18 months to set right our fundamentals.” Hopes are set high this time around especially since Tata Motors has been doing well in Truck and Buses segment whereas the passenger vehicle segment has been badly affected due to key players like Maruti Suzuki, Honda and Hyundai.
