Summary

Tata Zest has 10 versions available in India from which 4 are petrol and 6 are diesel cars. Tata Zest comes in 6 colours, namely, Sky Grey, Buzz Blue, Dune Beige, Platinum Silver, Pristine White, Venetion Red.

Launched in 2014, the Tata Zest was the first product under the company’s ‘Horizonext’ product strategy. The Zest has been designed with inputs from Tata’s design studios in Pune, Turin (Italy) and Coventry (UK). It looks a lot better than previous Tata cars in India. The interior, too, shows a significant improvement in material quality and cabin comfort. Power for the Zest comes from Tata’s self-developed 88.73bhp,1.2-litre MPFi turbocharged Revotron engine and a 1.3-litre, four-cylinder Quadrajet diesel motor offering 88.73bhp. A 5-speed manual and an F-Tronic AMT (automated manual transmission) are on offer.

Despite offering high performance, both the engines of the Tata Zest are quite frugal. Its petrol variant returns a fuel economy of 18kmpl, while the 88.73bhp diesel model offers 23kmpl.

The Zest is one of the most spacious and practical cars in its league. It offers best-in-class features such as Harman’s ConnectNext infotainment system with 5-inches touchscreen (3-inches on base-model), audio system with Bluetooth, iPod/USB and Aux-in connectivity, height adjustable driver seat, reverse parking sensor display, voice commands etc.

Based on Tata’s new ‘DesignNext’ philosophy, the Zest looks better than many of its rivals. It features new signature grille with the new ‘Humanity Line’, trapezoidal lower air dam, projector headlamps with chrome accents, ‘The Diamond DLO’ and ‘Slingshot Line’, bold shoulder creases and wraparound rear-styling.

The Zest is available in two engine options – Tata’s self-developed 1.2-litre MPFi turbocharged Revotron and a 1.3-litre, four-cylinder Quadrajet. While the former develops a maximum power of 88.73bhp and 140Nm, the latter one delivers 88.73bhp with 200Nm. The transmission options on offer are - a 5-speed manual and an F-Tronic technology enabled AMT (automated manual transmission) gearbox.
