Suzuki is revitalizing Vitara model name for a new product, a five door compact crossover. The company has teased an image of new Vitara compact crossover before its scheduled debut in October this year at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. Suzuki’s new compact crossover will compete with other crossovers in its segment like Ford EcoSport and Nissan Juke.
In preeminent global markets, new Vitara will replace previous generation SX4-S-Cross. Since the new SX4 S-Cross is visually bigger on the lines of Nissan Qashqai, hence it fits in the segment a notch above. Suzuki’s Indian arm, MSI has also foreshadowed at the launch of new SX4 S-Cross. The SUV will make its way into the domestic market in 2015.
As for the Vitara production model, it is likely to be conceived iV-4 concept seen last year at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. Based on a newly developed platform, the vehicle is expected to be manufactured at the company’s Hungarian manufacturing unit and it is a part of the expansion plan. The new versatile platform underpinned by Vitara compact crossover will further be used by a string of upcoming cars.
Expected to be offered in petrol and diesel guise, a 1.6 litre petrol engine will be used in petrol variants. Diesel range of new Vitara will house the same set of engine as equipped in the SX4 S-Cross. A four-wheel-drive option will also be proffered through AllGrip system. Suzuki claims that the new Vitara will flaunt an eye-catching design and will have a conspicuous road presence. The company is also likely to offer bespoke options for the car with several trim customization and colour options.
