Speculations are rife that Maruti Suzuki India is working on a premium hatchback, codenamed ‘YRA’, the vehicle is expected to be launched in India in 2015-2016. YRA hatchback will be positioned above Maruti Swift. Yet under development stage, the premium hatchback could be unveiled at the 2016 Auto Expo. Expected to be priced between Rs 6 lakh to Rs 9 lakh, the YRA hatchback will gun straight against the likes of Volkswagen Polo, Skoda Fabia and upcoming new Honda Jazz. Reinforcing probable development of YRA hatchback is a prototype of an unnamed Suzuki hatchback that was caught on test during its prefatory testing. The vehicle caught on camera was heavily covered. However, there is yet no official word out on development of YRA premium hatchback, but rumours are galore among media that the prototype caught on test could possibly be the YRA hatchback.
In the front, the hatchback featured a lower front grille and LED daytime running lights, alloy wheels were also visible enhancing the side profile. From the looks of it, the vehicle seemed slightly longer than 4 meters and it seems that the car possesses a low ground clearance. Buzz has it that the hatchback could get Baleno badge. The capacious hatchback looks like a mini-van and is expected to offer roomier cabin.
Power could come from turbo petrol and diesel engines that are being developed at Suzuki’s R&D centre in Japan. The petrol engine in question is the 1.0 litre, three cylinder direct injection engine that is being worked on under the codename K10 DiCT. The engine is expected to deliver maximum power output of 90 Bhp along with a top torque of 140 Nm. There are yet no details available on the diesel engine yet.
