Popular two-wheeler manufacturer Royal Enfield, a subsidiary of Eicher Motors, is in the process of developing two new platforms for engines, officials from the firm confirmed. According to them, these engines are being developed with intentions of launching multiple new models.

Siddhartha Lal, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Eicher Motors, spoke about the same subject to PTI. "We are developing two new engine platforms on which multiple products could be launched. The new products would be in the range of 250 cc and 750 cc and we expect to see products introductions starting next year," he was quoted as saying.

Though launching new products was on its radar, Lal conveyed that the firm would not divulge from its core concepts and value to culture to make bikes with extreme designs. "We would stick to our core proposition. The bikes would be for international markets and they would be higher performance bikes but not extreme performance bikes," he said.

According to Lal, the firm had a comprehensive plan for the next ten years, during which it hopes to manufacture multiple bikes using the new platforms. In order to facilitate better research, Royal Enfield has planned an investment into R&D centres, which will be opened in India and United Kingdom. The capacity of existing production facility in India is also expected to be increased by the end of 2015.

Speaking about investments from the firm, Lal said, "We will continue to make higher investments into brand, distribution and globally relevant products that will be essential for us to achieve global leadership in the mid-size motorcycle category."
