The Black Badge was introduced by Rolls-Royce in 2016 as a part of its bespoke cars programme to build customised Rollers for their buyers. After the Rolls Royce Ghost and the Wraith, it is now turn of the Dawn to get the Black Badge.
The Black Badge is not just cosmetic. The unique solid black colour is a mix of aircraft grade aluminium thread woven with carbon-fibre, six coats of lacquer and multiple layers of paint, hand-polished to get the typical Rolls-Royce paint finish. The Parthenon-like grille, boot-lid garnish and all the little chrome elements are done in black chrome including the Spirit of Ecstasy – the figurine that has adorned Rolls-Royce since eternity.
The interiors have also been wrapped in shades of black with different materials lending their own aura to the darkness inside. The retractable top is also all-black while the upholstery gets an orange highlight that pops the cabin mood. Under the hood, the Black Badge Dawn gets an additional 30bhp of power over the standard Dawn, thus increasing the power output from the V12 to 593bhp. The torque is up to 840Nm and is transferred to the rear wheels through an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox. The suspension has been tuned to offer sportier dynamics at the flick of a switch.
The Black Badge Dawn also gets a custom exhaust system that makes sure you are heard when you arrive at the flick of another switch. The Rolls-Royce Dawn Black Badge will debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and the price tag will certainly have all the remaining jaws dropping.
