      Well, SUVs are a segment, which have seen quite some competition of late. When it comes to the models available in India, there is no shortage of options. On the contrary, if you are looking forward to buy a SUV, you might feel a bit confused because of the plethora of options. Here is a comparative study of two of the most popular names in this segments – Mahindra XUV 500 and Tata Safari.

      Tata Safari Storme is priced at a modest 13.7 lakhs INR and has been in business for quite some time now. The model has been a favourite right from its inception in the Indian market. It is powered by a 2179 cc VTT Varicor diesel engine, which is capable of churning out a power of 138.1 bhp at the rate of 4000 rpm. The net twisting force generated from this car is 320 Nm at the rate of 1700 to 2700 rpm. Power is transmitted to the wheels using a five-speed manual gearbox. The car has been provided with AWD option, making it ideal for trips on challenging roads, as well. The minimum turning radius of the Storme is 5.4 metres, which is definitely quite large. As far as the seating capacity is concerned, the SUV scores large with easy accommodation of seven people. With a ground clearance of 200 mm, the car is meant for uneven roads. The model has a fuel tank capacity of 70 litres.

      On the other hand, Mahindra XUV 500 is priced slightly above at 14.7 lakhs INR. The SUV is powered by a 2179 16V mHawk mill, which is capable of churning out 140 bhp power at the rate of 3750 rpm. The net torque output of the car is 330 Nm at the rate of 1600 to 2200 rpm. The transmission duties are done by a six-speed manual gearbox. Like the Storme, it also features AWD option. It has a top speed of 175 kilometres per hour. The seating capacity of the car is seven and the interiors are replete with modern amenities and sharp comfort features. The model is slightly less built than the Storme, so boasts of a better power to weight ratio. With a fuel tank capacity of 70 litres, it definitely scores higher than the Storme in terms of long drive.
