      Road accidents and Indian celebrities become inseparable

      Uncountable car accident cases have been registered in India in 2011, wherein a number of times, popular personalities were related in some way or the other. A host of high profile figures found themselves at the receiving end or saw the dear ones getting the taste of their own medicine. The incidents unfolded due to various reasons and the ramifications ranged from serious injuries to even death. .

      On 27th October 2011, film and television actor Ronit Roy hit his Mercedes with immense force into a Maruti Suzuki WagonR, causing injuries to people seated in the latter as the vehicle lost complete control. The accident took place near the Sab TV office in Andheri. Four passengers that were occupying the car namely, driver Deepak Darera, 60, his wife Kanta, 56, and two daughters, Puja, 24, and Sneha, 29 escaped with minor injuries.

      In another untoward incident, the car in which Jeev Milkha Singh, the golfer, was present, rammed into a Maruti Suzuki Alto. During the accident, the ace golfer was not on the wheels and occupied the rear seat. Singh was travelling in a Range Rover when the Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) collided with the Alto that was driven by Sunita, who was also accompanied by her son, Bhanu.

      According to the FIR lodged at the Police Station, the driver of Range Rover teased the red light, while on the other hand the driver of Alto did not pay heed to the yellow light and smashed into each other.

      Indian cricketer Joginder Sharma, 28, also found himself in the line of fire as he met with an accident on 24th November 2011 in New Delhi. The mishap took place when the cricketer who was driving his Maruti Suzuki Swift rammed into a call centre cab in Dwarka, West Delhi.

      However, it must be noted that along with four wheelers, casual attitude while riding bikes too have proved fatal a number of times. Former cricketer and India team Captain Mohammad Azharuddin's son, Ayazuddin, succumbed to his injuries following a brutal bike accident. His struggle for survival went on for five days but eventually he gave up the fight.

      Thus, taking into account the frequency at which road accidents are being unfolded in the country, one must realise that total awareness regarding road sense is the call of the hour.
