The 7th edition of the popular NDTV Car and Bike Awards 2012 was recently held at the Buddh International Circuit. The NDTV awards honoured minds behind the creation of automobiles that have successfully satiated customers in every sense. Volvo S60 was among the proud winners, which clinched the title of ‘Full Size Sedan of the Year’.
This award was presented to Volvo Auto India on account of increasing popularity of Volvo car models among Indian masses and critics. The sporty and dynamic Volvo S60 also managed to get nominated for the ‘Car of the year’ award.
The Managing Director of Volvo Auto India, Tomas Ernberg was present at Buddh International Circuit to receive the honour. Tomas Ernberg was accompanied by Managing & Public Relations Director of Volvo Auto India, Sudeep Narayan.
On receiving the award for ‘Full Size Sedan of the Year’, Tomas Ernberg stated, “With head-turning design, envious technology, and a fascinating array of innovative safety features - Volvo S60 has redefined choice for the discerning customers in its segment. We look forward to winning many more hearts with the Volvo S60 and are proud of the recognition bestowed upon us by NDTV.”
Volvo Auto India was established three years ago and the Volvo S60 model was introduced in the Indian automobile market during the first quarter of 2011. Since then, this Swedish car model has been a great success among Indian automobile enthusiasts.
In March 2008, the automobile company opened its first dealership and since then, it has managed to promote various models through dealerships in Chandigarh, Hyderabad, New Delhi, Pune, Mumbai, Kochi and Coimbatore. Other major Indian cities like Jaipur and Ahmedabad are likely to be the next in line. Apart from selling award winning Volvo S60, the company currently sells 3 other premium models in India namely Volvo XC60, luxury SUV Volvo XC90 and Volvo S80.
The jury for the NDTV Car and Bike Awards adjudged Volvo S60 as the winner for its out-of-the-box thinking and innovative engineering. The model Volvo S60 is known for its unconventional features like the world’s first ‘Pedestrian Detection’ along with full auto break, laser assisted automatic braking, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Turn with steering lights (Active Bending Lights) and Advanced Torque Vectoring Control.
With more than 34 automobile awards worldwide, Volvo S60 is enjoying a remarkable run in the automobile industry. Apart from riding high in India, this model has won ‘Scottish Executive Car of the Year' award 2010 as well.
Thus, Volvo has taken the Indian auto industry by surprise as plethora of laurels has come its way in the recent past. Moreover, the recent accolades would irrefutably act as a driving force for the sales figures of the company in India.
