Renault Kwid 1.0-litre launching by end of first half of 2016

The Renault Kwid 1.0-litre model showcased at the recently concluded Auto Expo event is due for launch by the end of the first half this year. As revealed by company sources, the new Kwid shall be launched in India sometime by May or June, 2016. The vehicle is positioned as a direct competitor to the country’s popular seller Alto K10.

The current generation Renault Kwid car is powered by 0.8-liter three-cylinder engine that generates about 53bhp of power and 72Nm of torque. It is believed that the 1.0-litre engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission shall generate about 67bhp of power. Speaking on fuel efficiency figures, the smaller engine claims to return about 25.17 kmpl; it is likely that the bigger engine variant could also return similar efficiency figures.

The pricing aspect is not known for now, however, it is anticipated that Renault may price the Kwid 1.0-litre variant under Rs 3.5 lakh. For now, the Alto K10 gets an upper hand owing to competitive pricing, the AMT option and the airbag option right from the base variants. Initially, the Renault Kwid 1.0 shall only be offered with a five-speed manual transmission option while an AMT could make it to the Indian market sometime by the festive season this year.

At the 2016 Auto Expo, Renault showcased the Kwid Racer and Kwid Climber that featured interesting cosmetic upgrades like Daytime Running LEDs and off-road tyres to give the vehicle a raw appeal. The new Kwid 1.0-litre is likely to get dual airbags and ABS on higher variants. Moreover, the higher trim shall be loaded with touchscreen infotainment system and a digital instrument cluster.
