      Record domestic sales achieved by Hyundai in February 2012

      The largest passenger car exporter and second largest car maker of India, Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL) reported 12.8% domestic sales growth over the same period last year. Compared to 32,629 units domestic sales in February 2011, the company sold 36,805 units in February 2012. However, export declined around 22.3% as the company sold 15,050 units in February 2012 against 19,378 units of the same period last year. Compared to 52,007 units sales of February 2011, the car maker managed to sell 51,855 units this February witnessing sales decline of 0.3%.

      Commenting on the February sales, Mr. Arvind Saxena, Director - Marketing and Sales, HMIL said, “Even in the tough market situation Eon sales have helped us achieve the highest ever domestic sales.”

      For February 2012, the cumulative sales of A3 Segment (Accent and Verna) are 6,584 units. The company sold 147 units of Santa Fe (SUV) this February. A2 segment, which comprises Eon, Santro, i10, i20 registered cumulative sales of 45,124 units.

      The complete subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company (HMC), Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) currently offers eight passenger car models in India. Eon, Santro, i10 and the i20 come under the A2 segment of the company. In the A3 segment, Hyundai offers Accent and the Verna whereas Sonata is kept in the A5 segment. The car maker offers the Santa Fe under its SUV segment. The company’s manufacturing plant is situated near Chennai, which has hi-tech quality testing and production facilities. A critical part of HMC’s global export hub, HMIL exports in about 10 years from 1998, reached 1 million mark.

      Across Middle East, EU, Africa, Latin America and the Asia Pacific, HMIL exports its vehicles to more than 120 countries. For six years consecutively, the company has been number one in the field of exports. In February 2008, Hyundai established its second plant with an installation capacity of 330,000 units per annum. The main reason behind this step was to cater to the growing demand. At present, HMIL has 787 service points and 341 dealers across India, which supports its expansion plan. In Hyderabad, an advanced multi-million dollar R&D facility has been formed as a part of its commitment to facilitate the customers with global technology. This R&D centre is a perfect example of advanced automobile engineering of the company.
