The name Dacia seems to be on minds of experts and media professionals of the Indian automobile industry. Only a few days back, tabloids and Internet portals were buzzing with rumours regarding the entry of Dacia brand in India. Some sources claimed that Dacia would enter the country in the form of a facelift version of Renault Duster, a highly successful model. The Romania-based brand has generated tremendous interest among experts in the country. This company is a subsidiary of French car maker Renault and made headlines earlier in 2013 after it discontinued the Logan-based pick-up truck. A number of sources claimed that Dacia might launch a follow-up model, which would be based on the much acclaimed Duster Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV). Now, according to Auto Industry News, a Romanian website, the company looks set to launch the new pick-up truck, a prototype of which was spotted in the country.

Despite the revelation of these images, officials from Dacia have remained tight-lipped on this issue and not confirmed anything. The Romanian website also revealed that this model is manufactured by a local firm by the name of Romturingia. This company specialises in the modifying cars from Dacia into special vehicles. As per sources, French car maker Renault has keen involvement in this project but on a small level. The Boulogne-Billancourt based company is taking part through its Technology Center, which is located in Romania.

In recent times, reports have surfaced that claim that a high number of customers in Romania have sent requests for such a vehicle. Big fleet customers have been asking for the production of a model that is highly spacious and comes with off-roading capabilities. It is being said that the pick-up truck, if launched, will feature components similar to Renault Duster. However, everything that is being said at present is based on rumours and speculations as the company itself has not confirmed anything.

The concept of pick-up trucks is not so popular in India at the moment; thereby such a model would not be launched in the country any time soon. Nonetheless, the Indian market is pretty huge and there is always scope for the entry of a new brand. Dacia, considering its good performance in Europe, could enter the domestic market. Also, the network of Renault, a brand that has a bit of experience, will surely boost the Romanian car maker.
