Pininfarina, the Italian car design firm and coachbuilder from Cambiano, Italy was acquired by popular Indian automaker Mahindra sometime late last year. As per fresh updates, Pininfarina is geared-up to produce an electric sports car that will debut at a later date. The H2 Speed, hydrogen sports car concept from Pininfarina was showcased at the Geneva Motor Show.

Mahindra and Mahindra’s involvement in the Formula E hints on a possibility of an electric sports car to follow by using its technology with the famed Pininfarina design. The acquisition will help the Indian automaker strengthen its presence in the Formula E. Speaking about Pininfarina’s Importance, Pravin Shah, President and Chief Executive, Automotive Division Mahindra and Mahindra Limited, said, “Design plays a critical part in designing vehicles in such a way that they are robust yet pollute the least while giving you the thrill that people want in vehicles.”

Owing to the new collaboration, Mahindra expects to hold a unique business proposition in the automotive and racing segment, while also changing the design perceptions. Citing the H2 Speed concept as a perfect example of Pininfarina’s wide-range approach, Mahindra stated that the company will showcase its ability in future with a wide range of powertrains. With this, Mahindra and Mahindra expects to further strengthen its position in the automotive as well as racing circuit.
