Withdrawal of extended excise duty concessions by the end of last year has put many leading carmakers in the country in a tiff, owing to which, almost all leading car-makers in the country have passed on the additional cost to customers. Country's leading car-maker Maruti Suzuki has also been affected with this new move and has hiked up the prices of its trims by about Rs. 32,000. Car buyers may expect an increase in price by about 4%.
Post the price hike, Maruti Suzuki's top-seller Alto trim costs higher by about Rs. 8,500 to Rs. 12,700. The Wagon R trim prices have reportedly gone up by Rs 12,500 to about Rs 15,700. The Swift hatchback now costs about an additional Rs. 15,850 to about Rs. 25,150. The price for the Celerio hatchback has been hiked by Rs 13,600 to Rs 17,200. In the sedan segment the prices of Swift Dzire has been hiked by about Rs 17,500 to Rs 26,650. The newest of the lot Ciaz sedan costs an additional Rs 22,450 to Rs 32,000.
The Omni Van from Maruti Suzuki now costs an additional Rs. 7,850 to Rs 9,950. Whereas, the Ertiga gets dearer by about Rs 18,750 to Rs 27,750. The company's price hike has been unavoidable and the management has ensured that it does not affect the customers to a great extent. Speaking more on the occasion, RS Kalsi, executive director at Maruti Suzuki said, “Whatever excise duty hike has happened from the government's side we are passing that on to customers.”
